Term 2 week 3 reflection

This week was an okay week, during maths we learned about Perimeter and Area, and at cooking we cooked some toasties and it was actually my first time trying toasties which was exciting.

we had to grate some cheese and the team i’m in all wanted sauce so someone got some sauce as well, while we did all that some bread was baking in the oven. to dry it out so that the sauce wouldn’t seep into the bread making the bread all soggy.

when the bread was done, we took it out from the oven and spreaded some tomato sauce on the bread with a table spoon, then, we sprinkled on some cheese will sharing it fairly with the rest of the team.

and then we put it into the oven again and the cheese started to melt and the whole kitchen started to smell like bread and cheese.

this week was fun.

Performing Arts day 1

Hi Mr, Rea! this is my first lesson in performing arts, oh dear….its been so long since i’ve touched an instrument.

I only know a bit of violin but….my knowledge on them has gotten rusty over the time.

I enjoy music because its fascinating, how music isn’t just sounds and it can tell a whole story with just some notes or strings. how much effort and passion is put into each melody, how everything fits so well, and how everything just blends together.

For me, music is something that is important, it can change the mood, the scene and the story.

I used to learn piano before my piano teacher decided to move the Auckland and never came back so, I hope that this term I can get more used to using a few instruments and try out new instruments that I haven’t used before.

Waka hourua

this week and last week for social studies we have been working on making our very own Waka hourua! we had to use Popsicle sticks, paper straws, small sticks, and some others like a cloth and cardboard.

I was in charge of making the board of the Waka, so I glued 5 Popsicle sticks into a little flat board and  and glued them together….lets say it was not easy to cut of the ends of the popsicle sticks with scissors, so I recommended that we should buy a saw but judging from a teachers reaction I guess we should just scrap that idea.

Violet built a little house for the middle of the Waka while Riamme made the paddles and Andrea made the sails.

after a lot of hard work, my team and I….have finally finished…( i also made some emergency rails :> )

Hypothesis

I think the marble will roll further because the marble is more heavier thus making it roll further than the ping pong ball.

Steps

Get an egg carton or a flower pot tray, and then place the newspaper on the egg carton or a flower pot tray. Add something heavy on the edge if the newspaper is light in weight, and then….BAM!!! you have yourself a DIY ramp!

Conclusion

In conclusion, the hypothesis was correct.  I believe the marble rolled  further than the ping pong ball because it relied on the force of gravity to eventually allow the marble to accelerate faster.

Hypothesis (What I think will happen)

I think the big plane will fly further than the small plane, as the big plane has bigger wings which will make it fly further.

Background

The first paper plane was made around 200 years ago.

The longest distance ever flown by a paper plane was 88.1 metres.

There are four forces that act on the paper plane when it is flying.

  • Thrust how fast it is pushed
  • Lift how much wing area can be pushed up
  • Gravity, pulls the plane down
  • Drag, slows the plane down

Equipment

You will need

    1. A4 paper
    2. A5 paper
    3. chalk
    4. metre stick

Results

first throw : the small plane flew further than the big plane.

second throw: the big plane flew further than the small plane.

third throw: the big plane flew further than the small plane.

Conclusion

My hypothesis  was correct because the big plane flew further, I think that the big plane flew further because the big plane had bigger wings that might have gave a bigger platform for the air to push the plane further.

for DTE today, we went on grok academy and learned all about cyber safety and what to not include in your password

some of the dangerous piece of info to put into your social media profile is your address, phone number, and personal email. one of the reasons why is because your address and phone number are very personal and important pieces of information that should not be leaked to a public audience.

two things you can do to be safe online is to not use repeating passwords, your password for each app should be different and at least 12 numbers or letters long, don’t include your birthday as your password as it is easy to find and decode.

be careful when you are online, and make sure that you always have a backup password.

Ring ring poster

Hello people 🙂

unfortunately i did the wrong week for create tasks and book choices…but its too late because i already finished create task 3, so no turning back now ._.

but anyway, LAST week, we did lots of book choices and the book that I chose was Ring ring, the book Ring ring is about a family going camping everything was normal until they heard a weird sound, but turns out it was a [ redacted because i wont explain everything that’s on the poster ]

the book also features a Tui bird that can mimic a lot of different sounds like rings, chirps, and probably even sounds from other animals that are not birds! just like some parrots.

I tried to make the poster look like it was hiding in a bush but i feel like it looks more like a patch of grass, well to be honest…it is a patch of grass but it was close enough. I added a little shadow on the text so that it would stand out more and not blend in with the bright background.

i also added rocks so that it would be like…in a upwards angle??? I don’t know just pretend you suddenly transformed into an ant and is now seeing floating white text ??

I think i did well on the colour choice for the text because it kind of looks like clouds now that i look at it again haha, i think i also did well on the colour choice for the background as it adds a m,ore cartoony element to the poster.

Photo day

HELLO PEOPLE 😀

i totally did not forget about photo day and i can promise you i am not writing this in bed last minute before photo days ends … 🙂

but..i decided to take a photo with my oh so very handsome cat Cookie that would not want to look at the book but thanks to my mum we made it work! i read the book Drama even though it wasn’t my favourite book, why I hear you ask? well, it’s because my favourite book is still at school in my tote tray 🙁 i wanted to get a moment where Cookie was sitting on top of the massage chair..well literally on top as you can see in the photo down there.

it wasn’t perfect but it was worth it to at least give it a go to see how it turns out haha 🙂

Defenders of wildlife canva video

 

 WALT identify what conservation is and why it is important

Hi people

this week for inquiry we have been looking at endangered and extinct animals, for this create task, we had to make a plan about what would be in the Canva video, what conservation means, and also how we can prevent animals from becoming extinct, i was originally going to do four paws in the UK but their website had no information about anything that is about them, and also the site was very glitchy and bugged which was very annoying, i used a lot of transitions and animations in this video for it to not look dull and boring.

i think i did well with making the animations on the text very creative and i think i chose the right colours for the theme as well, maybe next time i should make the frames with longer texts a bit longer so that you wouldn’t have to pause it because its too short.
